A Trusted Partner in Museum Preservation and Protection
Intercept Technology™ has a rich history of protecting valuable items, beginning with its initial use to safeguard wafers for electronics. One of our earliest customers was the Getty Museum, followed by a major Mint that utilized our technology to protect incoming silver. Over the years, Intercept has become a trusted solution for museum storage and the protection of archived materials.
When Bell Labs developed Intercept Technology™, they ensured that harmful additives and non-essential fillers commonly found in plastics were excluded. This includes various volatile agents and anti-block agents, such as silica, which can cause surface scratches. Instead, Intercept materials are made from reactor-grade polymers, with copper integrated into the polymer matrix to prevent migration. This careful formulation ensures that Intercept is safe for storing even the most sensitive items and has successfully passed PAT and other archival tests.
Museums utilize Intercept films, wraps, totes, and bags to protect their collections from corrosion, degradation, and pollution. Our films serve as backing material for framed items, shielding them from harmful pollutants. Additionally, Intercept Active Filtration—saturated foam combined with a fan unit -- has been employed to protect museum cases, jewelry displays, and small storage areas. This technology reacts with and permanently neutralizes active pollutants within museum or jewelry cases. When used as wraps or bags, Intercept materials cleanse the internal environment by reacting with harmful gases while acting as a barrier against their reintroduction.
Corrosion Intercept® films are favored by museums not only for their effectiveness but also for their visual indicators. The copper color of Corrosion Intercept® changes hue as it reacts with and neutralizes pollutant gases, providing a clear visual assurance that the material is functioning properly. When the color shifts to dark grey or white (indicating exposure to nitrous gases), it signals that it's time to replace the packaging.
Intercept Technology also protects against three major causes of degradation for CDs and digital data: ESD damage, ozone exposure, and UV light. The RIBS MVTR product line has proven effective in combating mold and mildew while permanently neutralizing corrosive pollutants in the environment. It also offers moisture barrier protection akin to foil while absorbing organic components due to its buried carbon layer.
With a commitment to preserving cultural heritage and ensuring the longevity of valuable collections, Intercept Technology™ stands out as an essential partner for museums worldwide.
